Live from Akerhus Castle

Ever wonder how horses with heavy loads can get up steep cobbled streets in the old days?

  1. Nice Horse impression Jaybob!!! I always wondered about the whole cobble stone thing. It makes sense when you look at it from the perspective of a horse with a heavy load going up a steep incline. I know from growing up and riding horses that unshoed is the best since a horses "feet" are very sensitive. But traction is a whole other issue. Flat or a hill, a horse can only haul so much weight before it becomes taxing on their body. I am sure you could feel the difference if you were to to go up a hill without shoes versus carrying your dad on your shoulders:-) xooxooxxo

  3. Yes the cobble stone slanting effect makes a lot of sense when you look at it from the side of a horse we read about it in a pamphlet we got about the castle.
